Description: "The Voice That Stayed" focuses on bringing awarness to suicide victims and thier families. Focusing on our main character Elice, we follow her throughout the short film as she attempts to end her life inside a car. During this experiance she begins to haluncinate, literally her life flashing before her eyes. Elice watches the moment of her first day of school, as she realizes that she wants to live, Elice struggles to save herself ultimatly returning home.
Critique: The film was quite literal and quite simple, getting straight to the point, the story packs a emotional hit yet however leaves much more room for improvement. The idea of suicide inside the car is visible yet hard to understand at first glance, the cinematography is phenomenal with the post editing color grading elevating it even further. However while watching it, it was hard to connect with the main character as we are plunged straight away into her past. The intro into her past provides us with beautiful shots yet seems unnecessary, instead it should explore different areas of her past. The window of her leaving and watching herself ride away brings sincerity but doesn’t pack the punch the scene seemingly intended too. Overall the story should have pursued a more deeper connection with Elice by delving into more of her memories instead of a single long memory.
Refrence: "Joker" Directed by Todd Philips, and "Interstellar" Directed by Chrisopher Nolan
